Bible Survey

We will survey the entire Old & New Testaments, with a brief overview of each book, including pertinent geographical and historical information. Our objective is for attendees to gain a working understanding of the scriptures and to facilitate a better grasp of the big picture of the Bible.

Track Details:

The Biblical Studies  Certificate The purpose of the Biblical Studies Certificate is to provide Foundational  training for the Ecclesia in the areas of biblical studies, interpretation, the virtues of the Holy Spirit, in doctrine, and Christian education and values.

The Purpose of the Course:

The focus of this course,  A Survey and Overview of the Old and New Testament.

The study consists of a brief overview of each book, including pertinent geographical and historical information

Course Textbook:  Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart. How to Read the Bible Book by Book: A Guided Tour:  Zondervan Academic, 2002. Available for 25$ CDN from Mark Garner.

Attendance:

Because of the intense schedule of these certificate courses, the student should strive to be at every class meeting. Any more than two absences will result in the student being only allowed to audit the course.

Course Requirements:

1.  Students will need to bring a copy of the Bible to class.  2.  Students will be required to read the Old  and New Testament during the course of the class.  A question of completion will be a part of the final exam.  Students may use an audio recording of the Bible to assist with this reading requirement.  3.  Final Exam:  take home.

A reading schedule can be found below in the course  schedule.  A Popular Survey of the Old Testament and New Testament.  Please note the following from the text in each chapter:

  • Orienting Data—Concise info bytes that form a thumbnail of the book.
  • Overview—A brief panorama that introduces key concepts and themes and important landmarks in the book
  • Specific Advice for Reading—Pointers for accurately understanding the details and message of the book in context with the circumstances surrounding its writing.
  • A Walk Through—The actual section-by-section tour that helps you see both the larger landscape of the book and how its various parts work together to form the whole.

Assignment:  From each chapter in the Text, pick a passage of Scripture that you read and write a sentence explaining what you learned.  For example, you might want to read the covenant that God made with Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 and explain how it contains a blessing, a land and a promise to become a great nation.

Dr. Jerry Steingard holds a Bachelor of Sacred Literature from Canadian Nazarene College, a Master of Divinity from Regent College and a Doctorate of Practical Ministry from Wagner Leadership Institute. Jerry is a gifted teacher with a passion to train and educate believers of foundational topics and theological truths of Discipleship, Revival, Signs and Wonders, the Kingdom of God, the End Times and the significance of the Nation of Israel. After over 35 years in ministry and pastoring, Jerry has grown in wisdom and passion to see individual Christ-followers and local churches succeed and thrive in their God-given calling and destiny in Christ. Jerry is currently an Advisory Leader at Jubilee Stratford and an Interim Senior Leader at Milverton Christian Fellowship. Jerry is married to Pam and together they have 3 married children and 8 adorable grandchildren.

Faculty

Dr. Mark Garner is the former Executive Director of Cornerstone Christian Counselling Centre in Canada and has been involved in overseas missions with his wife Bonnie for 25+ years. Together, they were an integral part of YWAM counselling school staff in Switzerland, as well as led YWAM Schools of the Bible. They have travelled to Africa, Europe and the Caribbean as teachers and leaders with International Missions Agencies. Dr. Mark had a private counselling practice in the GTA and worked for the University of Waterloo specializing in Career Counselling. He has a love of teaching, intercession and counselling and has taught courses at Jubilee Stratford under the auspices of Christian Leadership University. Dr. Mark has his M.A.,M.Sc., and D.Min.
